St. Lawrence River

Chris Tarrant reckons this must be the best carp fishing in the world! The water system is massive, but there are also many quiet bays and backwaters teeming with wild, fighting fit and hungry carp. Once you’ve tried the St Lawrence, you’ll never want to fish a French lake again, because the fishing here is so fantastic.

Location

The Golden Salmon Ranch, located just a few miles from the St. Lawrence river in Massena, New York (approximately 80 miles south west of Montreal). We own a large farmhouse built in the 1800's on 200+ acres of land. This comfortable home features six bedrooms and a wonderful kitchen from where Aline conjures up all sorts of delicious meals. Adjacent to the house is a huge barn, tackle shop and boat barn. The large barn features a game room with pool table, ping-pong, darts, bar football, cable TV etc. A shopping centre, stores and local taverns/restaurants are within a mile.

WHAT CAN YOU CATCH?

Individual results obviously vary depending on such factors as: weather, amount of time fished, ability and yes luck. The following is an honest assessment of what you might expect based on our eleven years experience of taking people carp fishing on the St. Lawrence river.

Seven carp in an eight hour session is an average day. The average fish weighs 17lbs. We concentrate on common and mirror carp which most frequently range from 15 to 25 lbs. These fast water river fish have exceptional strength and stamina. We have captured and released common carp over 50 lbs. (including dozens over 40lbs. last season) and last year, I alone had 60 fish exceeding 30 lbs. Fish to 64 lbs. have been taken by locals and fish larger than that have been seen but remain un-captured.

A lot of the swims are impossible to get to unless you have a boat.
